Humphrey Update
For those of us in the UK summer arrived late this year (which is not unusual, we're glad if we get one at all!).
Humphrey certainly doesn't mind this though as he is not a big fan of hot weather, well apart from sunbathing - more on that later.
You see for most of the year Humphrey loves his walks, but the heat spoils his fun. I try to pick the coolest times of day for us to go out, look for shady routes and carry water and a bowl for him, but his normal response is to walk for a little while and then lay down, this is much to the amusement of passers by, seeing a hot pug belly down on the ground happily watching the world go by. After a brief rest Humphrey will be off again until he decides he would like another break/ water refreshment this will continue for sometime until we arrive back home or I get the 'the look' basically translated this look means I am hot, tired and now I would like you to carry me, thank you very much. The old saying never walk a pug further than you are prepared to carry them back certainly could not be more true. I don't mind at all though, because as long as he has enjoyed himself that's all that matters, although it is surprising how heavy a pug can get after carrying them for a distance.
From this you may think that Humphrey would try to stay out of the sun as much as possible but no, his favourite pastime in the summer is finding the sunniest spot in the garden and laying there in between his usual chasing of aeroplanes and birds that fly over, no puffing, no panting. At this time the heat does not seem to bother him at all. I'm still trying to figure that one out...
Anyway we are now reaching the end of summer and the days are getting shorter and the evenings and nights are getting cooler. This can only mean one thing, Humphrey's migration from the bottom of the bed where he sleeps at night during the hotter months up the bed to snuggle and even going under the duvet. More on this in our next newsletter.
But until then, we hope you've enjoyed this update,
Bye for now
